Free Prostate Screening Held
We had a free prostate screening on Saturday, September 8, 2007, with 41 participants. The screening was done by Urology of Alabama from Birmingham. We had three doctors present: Dr. Thomas Moody, Dr. Albert Tulley, and Dr. Rupa Kothantradoji. Tracy Walz and Martha McDonald (Samford Students) and Dr. Jack Hathaway with Alabama Public Health were here to assist with the screening. SSOH volunteers were Mary King, Vivian McLaughlin, Michele Brooks, and Ruby Richardson. Former Mayor Ed Daniel was screened.
School Supplies Giveaway
This event was held on August 7, 2007 at the Perry County Courthouse Square. It was sponsored by Royal Lane Baptist Church from Dallas, Texas, with Garland Hamalic as team leader. The Royal Lane group included Sue Northroupe, Sandy Washington, Garland Halmic, Ann Hughes, and Cookie Stokes. Sowing Seeds of Hope board members (Mr. Ed Daniel, Mary Moore), staff (Frances Ford, John Mitchell) and SSH volunteers (Berdia Nelson, Viola Daniel, Lucille Williams also helped out with the event. Chinester Herring, Henrietta Jones and Ann Robinson were in Uniontown.
1280 book bags were given away that day - 800 in Marion and 480 in Uniontown.
The School Supplies Giveaway was followed by fun on the square with food - hotdogs, cookies, lemonade and snow cones. The participants also enjoyed face painting, hula hoops,and inflatables.
Marion Matters
Marion Matters is a Judson College freshman activity that Sandra Fowler and Susan Jones coordinate.
This year the students assisted in sorting out medical equipment donated from Mountain Brook Baptist Church. It will be distributed to local healthcare providers.
This event took place at the Old National Guard Armory/ Marion Perry Nutrition Fitness Center on Friday, August 24, 2007.
